The project has found a recipe for success, reversing the appalling trend toward deforestation in northern Ecuador by involving local farmers and townspeople as well as foreign specialists and volunteers in a well-organized reforestation effort. The project's goal is to conserve a unique forest ecosystem, while improving the standard of living for the people of the region, through the introduction of sustainable agricultural techniques.
